New Sculpture at Spencer House

A new sculpture has appeared outside Spencer House, facing The Green Park in London.

It is a large bronze, Formulation (Stance) by British artist Tony Cragg RA.

Although it is executed in bronze the work appears to be made of rubber.  Before going to art college in the late 1960s Cragg worked as a lab technician at the Natural Rubber Producers Research Association. Cragg’s works in bronze often seem to display an affection for rubber as each work evolves  through a number of materials (such as plaster, latex, clay and polyurethane) until a final bronze version is produced.

I am not sure whether this work is being displayed as part of the City of Sculpture  festival or whether it is part of the London 2012 Festival, Cragg is exhibiting at Goodwood and in Exhibiton Road as part of the latter.
